There is no remedy for love, but to love more

I am currently attempting to write a poem and it is completely unsuccessful, so thought that maybe I’d write a blog entry about the subject on which I’d like to write my poem and maybe I’d find something.
The assignment is to write an allusion, a reference to art, history, literature, etc. For example, Robert Frosts’ “Out! Out!” is an allusion to William Shakespeare’s MacBeth, “out, out brief candle!… out, out damned spot!”
The strangest thing about my lack of inspiration is that I chose to allude to my literature hero, who inspires me more than anything else; Henry David Thoreau. I’m in love with Henry David Thoreau.

It’s been too long.

Occasionally I find myself back at little old Nottingham School playing basketball, reminiscing, or an old Nottingham School favorite pastime: swinging. Whenever I hop on a swing the goal is always to get as high as possible, ever since I was little. The last time I was on a swing, I broke the cardinal rule: I looked down. I immediately had a flashback from the good old days when I would get as high as possible and then jump. I immediately thought to myself, “ow, ow, ow.” Ignorance is bliss; when I was young, I was fearless. I could conquer anything. Regardless of my thirst for knowledge and experience, I miss ignorance. I miss the carefree bliss of being young; before you learn of the bad things that are happening in your world. Sometimes I like to forget; it’s good for the soul.
